About Us

The Fairfield Fencing Academy is an independent organization dedicated to promoting multi-level fencing by targeting athletic development and competitive exposure. Whether you are a competitive fencer, or just looking to have fun, the Fairfield Fencing Academy has the resources and the coaching staff to help you achieve your goals. We offer both private and group lessons for students of all ages. No matter if it's foil, saber or epee, the Fairfield Fencing Academy is the perfect fit.
Owner John Tejada began his coaching career in 2001, taking over the girls' fencing team at Ramapo High School in New Jersey. During his four year stint, the Raiders went 52-4, winning four straight district titles, two Bergen County Championships, and a Santelli State Invitational Championship. In 2003, the Ramapo Girls Fencing Team was honored with a Senate Resolution by the State of New Jersey.
Tejada was named Coach of the Year four times, and in 2010 was named the Coach of the Decade by the Bergen Record. He is now the head coach for the Fairfield High Schools Fencing Team. Over the course of his career, Coach Tejada's student-athletes have gone on to fence in the NCAA for schools such as Penn State, Northwestern, Boston College, Cornell, North Carolina, Princeton, NYU, Lafayette, Sacred Heart and Vassar.
